THE DIALED IN JOURNAL · W-2 PLANNING

Your paycheck changed. Should your withholding?

A new job, a change in income, or a change at home can make last year’s withholding choices less useful this year. Reviewing your paystubs gives you a chance to plan before filing time.

When to take another look

The IRS recommends reviewing withholding in January and after significant changes such as a new job, marriage, divorce, or a child’s birth or adoption. If you update withholding during the year, revisit it for the next year too.

Gather before you calculate

Have your recent paystubs and, if filing jointly, your spouse’s paystubs. Other income, adjustments, credits, and deductions can matter; your most recent return and supporting payment records may help.

A quick estimate is a starting point

Our planner shows a simplified wage-only illustration. It does not account for the many credits, deductions, or other taxes that may apply to you. The official IRS estimator offers a fuller review and can help you prepare a Form W-4.

Make the change intentionally

Do not change payroll settings based solely on a simplified website result. Use the official tool or discuss your full situation with Kelly, then give any completed Form W-4 to your employer.
